Arthritis is an extremely painful disease which affects the whole body, but is mainly experienced in the joints. There are 100s of different types of arthritis, but the two most well-known forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Osteoarthritis Arthritis
Osteoarthritis Arthritis is the most common form, also known as degenerative joint disease. Most of us refer to it as ‘wear and tear’, and it is almost inevitable as we age. It may be created from an unbalanced spine creating stress on the joints. As the spine wears, extra bone may grow, further impinging on the nerves causing Arthritic pain.
Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis may affect people as young as 30 years old. Nobody knows what causes Rheumatoid arthritis for certain, but it can disappear suddenly. It destroys the joints and affects the heart, blood vessels, eyes, skin, muscles and other organs, causing fatigue and pain.
What you can do to help ease Arthritic pain
Firstly, come and have a chat with us at Optimal Chiropractic. Arthritic patients benefit hugely from our treatment. We find that adjustments improve the function of the spine and help to remove the interference, allowing the body to perform properly again.
A healthy diet
A balanced and nutritious diet that contains oily fish, calcium and iron-rich food is recommended as these will boost your energy levels, strengthen your bones and lubricate your joints.
When selecting an eating plan, keep your fats to a minimum to maintain a healthy weight.
Exercise
As Chiropractors, we are always keen to promote an active lifestyle, it’s all part of the wellness cycle. Regular exercise is best – walking, cycling, swimming and dancing are popular and can these forms can be adjusted to suit your activity level.
The whole idea is to keep the joints moving as periods of no activity can increase discomfort levels.
Extra care
Omega 3 oils are ideal as a dietary supplement and help to ease stiff and achy joints. They are a great way to help manage Arthritis. We sell a great Omega 3 in the office for €40 per bottle. This is a three month supply and doesn’t have the strong taste usually associated with fish oils.
