Melatonin hormone regulation plays a huge role in severe or advanced stages of prostate cancer.
Research shows when melatonin is low – the risk for getting cancer increases dramatically.
The pineal gland is an important endocrine gland that produces the hormone melatonin.
Melatonin plays a key role in the sleep/wake cycle and the body’s response to sunlight.
If you can’t get to sleep and often wake up during sleep, it’s usually melatonin that has an indirect or direct effect.
It’s very important to take melatonin in supplement form if going across continents because the sleep cycle is already being disrupted.
Melatonin only gets released in the body when and if asleep. It will not release if you have light that filters in areas.
I recommend to some patients who have a difficult time sleeping to take about 1-2 milligram before resting.
Research* of men with prostate cancer in Iceland shows some interesting results.
Results from urine samples revealed; 1 in 7 had a hard time falling asleep and 1 in 5 had a hard time staying asleep. The sleep cycles in Iceland aren’t the best and the population has overall low levels of melatonin.
Those who had higher levels of melatonin had a decreased chance of the cancer metastasising, almost by 75%.
Also, another study has shown with melatonin use or high levels of melatonin there was a slow tumor growth process.
When the pineal gland was taken out there was a dramatic increase of tumor growth. This hormone is very important in modulation or balancing of the sleep pathway and the result is also of anti-oxidant activity.
What else can I do to improve sleep?
1. Sleep proof your room
Check the environment around where you sleep. The room needs to be completely dark and cool. That means no ambient light of any sort from a computer screen or alarm clock.
These items leak light into your environment and won’t allow for adequate release of melatonin. The regulatory mechanism gets in trouble leading to poor sleep and decreased immune system – causing people to get sick often.
2. Chiropractic Care
It humbles me to have patients tell us that after a few weeks of Chiropractic care, they notice two side effects – one is increased energy and the other is better sleep.
